A+ Adventurous Triathlon!

Last week we held our yearly Springston School Triathlon.  Students took part by biking, or scootering, swimming and running.  Here are a few pictures from the event.  Both Mrs. Watson and I are so proud of all of our students for having a Springston A+ attitude on the day.  Well done for showing the community how great you are at being adventurous and accepting. A great day was had by all!

Terrific Transformation

On Friday, after school, Miss Welch was able to capture a caterpillar turning into a chrysalis by videoing it on the camera.  Unfortunately we took many photos that day and our SD card ran out towards the end of filming, but much of the transformation was complete.  We watched it together as a class and we were amazed!  We thought it would be a good idea if we shared the video with others, as we've had many visitors to see our new butterflies.

Loving the library!

Every Wednesday we grab our reading folders and line up over at the library, excited that we will get to explore more books.
We are learning how to be great Shelf Elf helpers from a great book.

It has taught us to use our shelf markers to remember where we got a book from. We are practicing using these the right way. We can't wait to learn more from this great book.
When we find one we love be take it up to Mrs Winter to be zapped.
We love sharing the books we choose with our class mates before we go back to class.
After that we make sure it goes safely into our reading folder.

It's all about the challenge!!

The Junior Learning Team have been looking at how we can make Choice and Challenge more of a challenge for our adventurous children! Before we started our choices this morning we talked about what being adventurous means. We decided it meant: trying new things and making sure we keep trying if it was hard. Here is a slide show of children challenging themselves to try something new!

We are very lucky to have such amazing creative parents who help us at choice and challenge time. We couldn't do it without them!

We would love to answer your questions or tell you what our challenge was if you leave us a comment.

Ready for take off!

Our butterfly fluttered across our classroom and landed on this window sill. What do you think it is thinking about?

Tuesday 14 February 2012

"It's a miracle!" "This is the best day of my life!"

What had our children saying these fabulous things????

Our first butterfly!

Check out the photos of our first Monarch butterfly emerging from it's chrysalis. (You can click on the photos to see them bigger.)

We knew it wouldn't be long when we saw the chrysalis turn from green to a black colour.

Look at the butterfly's wings drying out and taking shape.

Someone suggested we record what was happening in our diaries. We all jumped up and started writing down what we saw.
Some people sketched a picture to show what they saw.
We marked it as a special memory on our timeline.

We are so glad that the chrysalis opened while we were in class so we could watch it happen.
Have you seen a butterfly emerge from chrysalis before?
What did you think?
Do you have any questions for us to answer?

Monarch Mayhem!

Sam G brought a swan plant to school. We have been eagerly watching the caterpillars get bigger and bigger! We have watched some turn into chrysalis. We are watching closely to see what will happen next!
Some children are writing what they see each day in their diaries at writing time. We will keep you updated on their progress.
Have you seen a butterfly emerging from a chrysalis?

Welcome back!
